Snow in LA reminds Me of Steve Martin’s Wacky Weatherman in LA Story
With the weather all crazy in LA and surrounding areas (including a foot of snow in Lancaster), I could not help but think of Steve Martin’s wacky weatherman in LA Story who prerecords the weather because it is always the same in LA and then loses his job when his boss, played by Woody Harrelson, actually listens to his weather reports. But the weather has a way of changing your life. For Martin’s character, it got him fired and saved the love of his life from leaving forever.
The movie is snarky, satirical and downright hilarious, particularly if you have ever lived in LA. SanDeE*(played by Sarah Jessica Parker) is studying to be a spokesmodel, the first day of Spring signals open season on the LA freeways, people order half double decaffeinated half-caf, with a twist of lemon, and you need a financial statement and a meeting with a banker to be able to order the duck at L’idiot, the restaurant of the moment.
Martin wrote the story and had a hand in choosing the omnipresence of Enya throughout the movie.
Spoiler Alert: here’s the climactic scene where Enya provides the soundtrack to love’s labor’s found as the fog rolls in and shuts down LAX. Enjoy.
