It’s not a rip-off of a song when the artist credits the original composer. This is a case of one artist sampling a piece of another artists work and giving all due credit. Vanilla Ice claiming that ‘Ice Ice Baby’ is 100% original this is not.

Moondance: you are definitely right. MIA samples the beginning of Straight to Hell by The Clash. The rest of the song is quite different but the killer lick that makes Paper Planes such an addictive song is Clash all the way.
