Music from Pineapple Express

I have been looking forward to Pineapple Express for a while. The great irony is that one of the main reasons – the song Paper Planes by M.I.A. – is not even in the movie. But Pineapple Express does have a good soundtrack.

There are 21 songs in the movie, including Cypress Hill, Bel Biv Devoe, Bob Marley, Public Enemy, Bone Thugs N Harmony, Robert Palmer and Falco. Of course, you cannot overlook the totally random inclusion of Shaquille O’Neal’s monster non-hit (I Know I Got) Skillz or the title song Pineapple Express by Huey Lewis & The News.

You can find the videos and downloads for all the songs on the Reelsoundtrack Web site. And for your listening pleasure, here’s Paper Planes by M.I.A.:

  1. I was wondering if you could help me, I am trying to find the name and artists for two songs I heard in the film but are not on the soundtrack. The first is playing in the background of the scene where Dale first smokes the Pineapple Express weed at Dale’s house, now it sounded like a reggae version of Johnny Cash’s Ring of Fire but I’ve searched around and could find no reggae cover of it. The second song of interest is the one that is playing during the depressing montage when Dale and Saul part ways. Now I thought the refrain lyrics were “Jungle Jim, you don’t know if your in heaven or hell” but I’m not completely certain. I realize that these are obscure references and the fact that either song is not on the soundtrack I am worried that finding their title’s and artist’s is hopeless but if you know anything about them it would be greatly appreciated. You can E-mail me any information at

  2. Never mind, never mind. The Johnny Cash cover is by Grace Jones and the other song is Time Will Tell by Bob Marley and the Wailers, for some reason they weren’t listed on any of the typical music database type sites
