All 12 Songs from the Despicable Me Soundtrack

There were 12 songs in Despicable Me, including three from Pharell, who also scored the Despicable Me soundtrack. Pharrell’s music is an interesting contrast to the other songs in the movie, such as Sweet Home Alabama and Boogie Fever, as well as, Copa Cabana and Garota de Ipanema (Girl from Ipanema).

I’ve been a huge fan of Pharrell as part of N.E.R.D. and Neptunes. I was a bit surprised to see his name up there for scoring the movie, but it works, it really works. The title track, Despicable Me, plays for the first time when Grum is at the coffee shop and then heads home. The beat was unexpected but it worked. I found myself trying to figure out who it was and how a song like that got in a movie like this, until I remembered that Pharrell was at the helm. The music did not dominate the movie, but it helped to carry it through. Both were excellent.

It took me a week to post this – apologies for the delay – but I finally have the complete list of all 12 songs from Despicable Me with notes on the scenes they were in, plus downloads for most of them.

  • Pyramids – Sweet Home Alabama – Lynyrd Skynyrd
  • Coffee shop to his home – Despicable Me – Pharrell
  • Moon landing as a kid – Garota de Ipanema – Antonio Jobim and Vinicius de Moraes
  • Boogie robots – Boogie Fever – The Sylvers
  • The Way It Is (Vector’s Theme) – D.A. Wallach
  • Karoake – Copacabana – Studio musicians
  • Amusement park – Fun, Fun, Fun – Pharrell
  • Building the rocket – Prettiest Girls – Pharrell
  • (unknown scene) – My Life – Robin Thicke (update: @Nakia thinks the song plays during the end credits. Any thoughts?)
  • Gru dances at the dance recital for the minions – You Should Be Dancing – Bee Gees
  • (unknown scene) – Minion Mambo – The Minions
  • (unknown scene) – I’m on a Roll – Destinee and Paris
  • First end credits song – Prettiest Girls – Pharrell
  • Second end credits song – Fun, Fun, Fun – Pharrell
  • Original music for Despicable Me – Pharrell Williams and Heitor Pereira

  1. Oh wow! This is great, thank you. :3 I always hate having to look up/download (legally of course *shifty eyes*) songs before figuring out if it was the one I got stuck in my head after hearing a total of four seconds of it in a movie. XD This really helped a lot, especially listing the scenes and putting up the videos. Bravo! 😀

  2. my favorite song is “prettiest girls” by pharell. its pretty catchy.

  3. hey the Robin Thicke song is the song the play on the credits…

  4. I also think my life was the song played during the credits. I really liked the song and wanted to get it. Definitely from the very beginning of credits.

  12. Does anyone know what the instrumental tune is called which plays in the beginning of the movie, when Gru and his minions steal the shrinking ray? The same tune was used twice(?) later on in the movie.

  13. Hi I wanna ask what is the name of the song that girls dance in the recital.

  14. Theres an awsome song by hans zimmer, its realy stealthy and actionish but i can’t find it? anyone?

  15. What about the scene where Gru is walking down the street and comes upon the little boy that dropped his ice cream… right before going into the coffee shop? He blows up a balloon and then makes a dog toy out of it, only to then pop it! I could have sworn I heard some Herb Alpert & the Tijuana Brass… if it wasn’t, that’s OK, cuz that was some serious dust that got cleared off REGARDLESS!

  16. AMAZING! I can’t believe that I found it and it is/was Herb Alpert & The Tijuana Brass – Casino Royale. Now I don’t know if that was the title song from the movie by that name, but…

  17. Yeah, ‘My Life’ played in the credits, the first song. I just finished watching Despicable Me. It was AWESOEME!

  18. Nadia is right

  20. they’ve listed all the hip-hop/ RnB songs from the film, which are great obviously, but what about the more classical-film-track-style ones? E.g. the music played when Gru goes to the moon? I LOVE those bits but can’t find them anywhere! let me know if anyone does. 🙂

  21. Hey, thanks for posting this. I was trying to find out who wrote Fun, Fun, Fun. And it’s a fun movie, too!
