All 22 songs from Inglourious Basterds Soundtrack
Tarantino takes 22 songs from classic movies to create the soundtrack to Inglourious Basterds. You can find all of them here. Only half of them are on the official soundtrack album to Inglourious Basterds.
This movie was brilliant. Brad Pitt doing an Tennesee accent of an EYE-talian accent was fantastic. I also dare you to look at a Bowie knife or a baseball bat in the same way. If only reality could have played out Inglourious Basterds style and we would have (SPOILER ALERT) taken Hitler out in a burnt down, blown up, machine gun riddled theater.
I am digging on this soundtrack too. In fact, through most of the movie, I was scribbling furiously, trying to figure out whether individual songs were tributes to old scores or actual songs themselves. I recognized Ennio Morricone’s iconic style, as well as David Bowie’s song Cat People, but most of the other songs were unknown to me.
Update: Billboard has a great interview with Quentin Tarantino discussing how he picked out the music for Inglorious Basterds from the record room in house.
There were only a handful of songs with lyrics, including the German music played in the tavern. The rest were instrumentals that mixed hollow guitar, piano, horns, drums and even a bit of twang. The music was perfect for the movie, and set the tone for the film.
Here’s the complete list of songs from the movie in the order they appeared in the film:
- The Green Leaves of Summer – Nick Perito – From the movie The Alamo
- The Verdict – Ennio Morricone – From the movie The Big Gundown
- L’incontro Con La Figlia – Ennio Morricone – From the movie The Return of Ringo
- White Lightning – Charles Bernstein – From the movie White Lightning
- Il Mercenario (Reprisa) – Ennio Morricone – From the movie Il Mercenario
- Slaughter – Billy Preston – From the movie Slaughter
- Algiers, November 1954 – Ennio Morricone & Gillo Pontecorvo – From the movie The Battle of Algiers
- The Surrender (La resa) – Ennio Morricone – From the movie The Big Gundown
- One Silver Dollar (Un Dollaro Bucato) – Gianni Ferrio – From the movie Blood for a Silver Dollar
- Bath Attack – Charles Bernstein – From the movie The Entity
- Davon geht die Welt nicht unter – Zarah Leander – From the movie Die große Liebe
- The Man With The Big Sombrero – June Havoc – From the movie Hi Diddle Diddle
- Ich wollt ich wär ein Huhn – Lilian Harvey and Willy Fritsch – From the movie Glückskinder
- Main Theme From Dark of the Sun – Jacques Loussier – From the movie Dark of the Sun
- Cat People (Putting Out Fire) – David Bowie – From the movie Cat People
- Mystic and Severe – Ennio Morricone – From the movie Death Rides a Horse
- The Devil’s Rumble – Mike Curb and The Arrows – From the movie Devil’s Angels
- Zulus – Elmer Bernstein – From the movie Zulu Dawn
- Tiger Tank – Lalo Schifrin – From the movie Kelly’s Heroes
- Un Amico – Ennio Morricone – From the movie Revolver
- Eastern Condors – Sherman Chow Gam – Cheung – From the movie Eastern Condors
- Rabbia e Tarantella – Ennio Morricone – From the movie Allonsanfàn
I watched Inglourious Basterds (stupid tile, great film) today. I just googled Inglourious Basterds Soundtrack, trying to discover if there was a track from Revolver in the film or if it was my imagination, and found this blog post. Really helpful and informative. Nice blog too, thanks.

I like the Bowie Cat People song. It seemed a bit out of place in the movie, but great song and appropriate lyrics.

Does anyone know where to find the entire score to Return of Ring, which includes ‘L’incontro Con La Figlia’? I’ll even settle for just the track itself in MP3. Thx in advance.

“What I’d Say” by Rare Earth. The instrumental bongo sounding part is around the ending of the song. About 6:17 of this video..

You left out the song when Shoshanna is “asked” to get in the car. It’s Hound Chase by Charles Bernstein. I just found this out, as I’ve been looking for it ALL DAY…
It’s also in Kill Bill Vol. 1, when she’s fighting the Crazy 88, but I don’t know the movie it was originally in.
